My Story

My name is Angela Powell, and with over 35 years of experience in skincare, beauty therapy, and education, I bring a unique combination of advanced expertise, real-world experience, and genuine passion to everything I do.

I was brought up in Ynystawe, Swansea, by my wonderful mum and dad, who have always been my greatest supporters. I’m the eldest of two daughters — my sister Philippa now lives in London with her partner and two sons. As for me… I’ve not quite found Mr Right yet, but I live in hope he might just be around the corner.

The Beginning of My Career

My journey began in 1991 within some of the UK’s most prestigious health spas, including Champneys Springs, Champneys Henlow, and Grayshott Hall & Spa. Here, I developed exceptional standards while working with high-profile clientele and refining the precision and care that still defines my work today.

Dermalogica & My Skin Philosophy

Early in my career, whilst working at the prestigious health spas, I experienced ongoing contact dermatitis, which led me to search for truly skin-friendly, results-driven solutions. This journey introduced me to Dermalogica and its founder, Jane Wurwand — a defining moment in my career.

I became the first professional to introduce Dermalogica to South Wales, and today, as a Dermalogica Expert, that philosophy of skin health over quick fixes remains at the heart of everything I do.

Building My Career & Expertise

In 1996, I launched my own successful beauty therapy business before transitioning into education, where I spent almost three decades developing and inspiring future professionals.

During my time in further education, I introduced Dermalogica into three of the colleges I worked in, ensuring all of my students were trained to a professional, industry-recognised standard. Through this partnership, we were invited annually to Dermalogica Head Office as part of their student partnership programme — a privilege that allowed me to show my students what is possible when you strive for excellence in your career.

I went on to lead and grow a thriving hair and beauty department from just two staff to over 30, achieving outstanding Estyn results and building a reputation for quality, high standards, and learner success.

Alongside my teaching and leadership roles, I worked extensively as an External Quality Assurer and Lead External Verifier for VTCT, both in employed and freelance capacities. In these roles, I supported further education centres across the UK, driving quality standards, ensuring consistency, and upholding excellence in training and assessment.

My academic achievements include a BA (Hons) in Education and Training and a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management. I also bring extensive experience delivering advanced leadership programmes within the private sector, further strengthening my ability to develop confident, capable professionals.

Alongside my commitment to continuous professional development, I remained actively involved in the industry, maintaining a loyal and long-standing client base — with some clients continuing their journey with me for over 30 years.

Specialist Skills: Electrolysis & Advanced Training

I also specialise in electrolysis, teaching at Further Education Level 3 for over 16 years. I trained extensively with Sterex at Head Office, completing advanced and refresher training to maintain the highest standards.

I mentored students through WorldSkills competitions, achieving first place and multiple second and third place awards at regional and national level. I also served as a WorldSkills Ambassador, supporting excellence in the industry.

The Skin Re-Treat

In 2025, I returned to my true passion — working directly with clients — and founded The Skin Re-Treat.

Here, I specialise in customised, results-driven skincare treatments alongside advanced services including electrolysis for permanent hair removal and skin lesion removal, alongside Map My Mole, a full range of body massage therapies, and beauty therapy. My focus is simple — helping you feel confident, achieve optimum skin health, and feel fully supported in your wellbeing so you can be at your very best.

Personal Inspiration & Advanced Care

My work is deeply personal. When my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, it changed everything. Supporting her inspired me to train in manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and expand into oncology care.

I am trained in oncology massage and auricular therapy, working with clients in a gentle, supportive, and specialist way.

Skin Health, Awareness & Advocacy

I am trained in MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) and offer a “Map My Mole” service.

I support The British Skin Foundation, have volunteered with Look Good Feel Better, and am a member of Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC), a UK-based charity dedicated to setting standards for holistic touch therapies for cancer patients, education and best practice.

SkinTuition by Angela

Alongside my client work, I am the founder of SkinTuition by Angela, an accredited training provider offering professional beauty courses aligned with National Occupational Standards.

My philosophy is simple — uphold high standards, focus on the finer details, and ensure every learner leaves feeling confident, capable, and ready to succeed. My support continues long after training is complete.

Professional Standards & Memberships

I am fully qualified, insured, and a proud member of:

The Guild of Beauty Therapists (MGBT)

The Guild of Holistic Therapists (MGHT)

The Guild of Therapy Lecturers (MGTL)

Institute of Hormonal Health & Wellness

Standards & Authority Touch for Cancer Care

I am committed to continuous professional development and regularly update my training to ensure the highest standards in both treatment and education.

Life Beyond the Clinic

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking (Sunday roast is my favourite), baking, theatre trips, dining out, spa days, travelling, and spending time with family. I enjoy running along Aberavon seafront and I’ve completed a couple of 10K runs.

I am also a regular guest speaker at WI groups across South Wales and have been invited to their AGM for a second year — a role I truly enjoy as it allows me to share knowledge and raise awareness. I was thrilled to meet Jason Mohammed at the AGM in 2025.

I live on the beautiful Aberavon seafront - and we really do have the best sunsets  It’s also all on the flat – great for walks, and plenty of choice for coffee and cake!
